Pitching Perspectives (6/1-6/7)
Since this edition of Pitching Perspectives is a week overdue, it will be abbreviated as I continue to catch up from my vacation last weekend. The Royals again finished with a 1-5 record for the second week in a row. After two terrible weeks in a row, the bullpen bounced back to post average numbers as a unit. Things were far from stable or reliable for the pen during the week as guys were either good or awful with no in between.
Unfortunately the rotation had a very bad week with their worst collective WHIP of the season. The bright spot for the week was the impressive return of Luke Hochevar from Triple-A. Gil Meche turned in the other “quality” start, but a WHIP of almost 2 over only 6.0 is far from dominant. In my opinion, the second best start, behind Hochevar’s effort, was probably Kyle Davies complete game outing against the Blue Jays and Roy Halladay. It was the second time this season that the Royals were involved in a game where both pitchers went the distance.
